Since its inception in 2020, the Data on Kubernetes Community (DoKC) has been on a mission to promote the use of Kubernetes for stateful and data workloads. While we’ve made significant strides, running stateful applications on Kubernetes remains a challenge for many.
Tackling Challenges: The DoK Special Interest Group
To address these persistent difficulties, the DoK Special Interest Group (SIG) was established in 2023. In a collaborative effort with the CNCF Storage TAG, the DoK SIG recently published the “Data on Kubernetes Whitepaper: Database Patterns.” This comprehensive guide outlines best practices and patterns for running databases on Kubernetes.
The “Get Started Project”: Empowering Beginners
This year, the DoK SIG has partnered with the DoK Ambassadors program to launch the “Get Started Project.” Our goal? To guide newcomers from zero experience to successfully deploying their first database on Kubernetes.
Why focus on databases? The last two DoK Reports consistently show that databases are the most common data workload run on Kubernetes.
